Movement is Important!
Did you know that the majority of your daily calorie burn doesn’t come from your workout? Instead, your calorie burn is dependent on what you do the other 23 hours of the day. Why is this important? It matters because the only way to lose weight is by eating less calories and burning more calories. You MUST eat less than you burn. Increasing the number of calories that you burn will help you achieve this deficit, and to increase your calorie burn, you need to move more.
Staying active has many benefits including, increased calorie burn, more energy, and heart health. It doesn’t have to consist of hours on the treadmill though. In fact, my favorite type of exercise doesn’t involve a gym at all! Here are 5 fun things to do to add some more activity into your day.
1. Go on a Hike
One way to move more is to go on a hike. This seems like a no brainer, but it is often overlooked. You can drive to the nearest mountain trail and make a day of it, or just go walk laps around the neighborhood park as your kids play. Hiking is for all levels and can be as intense or as relaxing as you want it to be.
2. Take a Class
Classes aren’t just for the gym. Find a studio nearby and learn how to dance the salsa or get your music video moves on in a hip hop class. If dance isn’t your thing, find a boxing or cycling studio to try out. Or maybe you want to get in touch with your inner diva in a pole dancing class. Talk about a great core and upper body workout! Classes are a great way to try something new while staying active.
3. Shopping Trip
You don’t have to tell me twice. Shopping is a great way to move more and burn some extra calories. Grab the girls and make an afternoon out of it. You can browse the racks or just stick to window shopping. Either way, get those feet moving!
4. Go Bowling But Don’t Sit Down Between Rounds
Bowling is fun whether you are solo or with a large group. The only issue is that you end up spending the majority of the night sitting. So I challenge you to stay standing throughout the whole game. It’s easier than it sounds. To make it even more fun, go glow bowling and have your own little dance party when it isn’t your turn. You’ll burn those calories without even realizing it!
5. Commercial Break Workout
Stuck at home? No problem. The commercial break workout has your back. Every time the commercial changes, switch up the exercise that you do. It’s your very own timer! Exercises can include jumping jacks, squats, and anything else that gets your heart rate up.
There you have it! Five new ways to move more throughout the day that don’t require a gym and are fun to do. Now, let’s get out and enjoy our wanderfit life!
