It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year!
The holidays are a glorious time where we can come together with friends and family to eat, drink, and be merry. This can pose an issue for your fitness and nutrition goals though. So, how do you enjoy the holidays without ditching your goals? You’ve asked and I’ve answered! I will take it question by question to help you navigate the holidays. Here is question number two.
What Are Some Fun Ways To Stay Active When Family Is In Town?
Family bonding time can absolutely be family active time. In fact, my favorite bonding moments always happen when I’m up and laughing with my loved ones. Here are some fun ways to stay active with your family.
Go ice skating at your local skating rink. Whether you are a seasoned pro or have never worn a pair of skates, it can be a fun family adventure. Most skating rinks offer walkers to help children (and adults) navigate their first time on the ice. You can also sign the family up for a skating lesson to learn the basics. While I’m not the best at ice skating, I absolutely love hitting the rink and laughing with my family.
Walking To See Christmas Lights
I love the holidays and all of the beautiful lights everywhere. What better way to get active than to walk the neighborhood, looking at Christmas Lights! You can grab your mittens and a low calorie hot chocolate and hit the sidewalk. Going on a 30 minute walk can make a huge difference in your overall calorie burn for the day.
Skiing, Snowboarding, Sledding
If you’re up for an adventure, take the family out for a skiing, snowboarding, or sledding trip. Snow sports are a serious workout and can be fun at the same time. I’d recommend starting with a lesson if you’ve never tried skiing or snowboarding before.
You don’t have to tell me twice! Shopping is a great way to get some extra steps in. Park at the back of the parking lot so you have to walk farther. Since the stores are all so busy, it will naturally take longer to get around, meaning that you will be spending more time on your feet.
So there you have it! You can go ice skating, take a walk to look at christmas lights, head to the snow, and take a shopping trip! Turn family time into active time to help you stay on track during the holidays. If you have a favorite family ACTIVE-ity, comment below!
