Holiday Q&A: How Do You Lose Weight During The Holidays?

It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year!

The holidays are a glorious time where we can come together with friends and family to eat, drink, and be merry. This can pose an issue for your fitness and nutrition goals though. So, how do you enjoy the holidays without ditching your goals? You’ve asked and I’ve answered! I will take it question by question to help you navigate the holidays. Here is question number three.

How Do You Lose Weight Instead of Gain Weight During The Holidays?

I don’t think it’s any coincidence that one of the top New Year’s Resolutions every year is to lose weight. The holidays can take a toll on your body with all of the parties and gatherings. So here is my best piece of advice for losing weight during the holidays instead of gaining weight. 

Log Your Food

I know that you’ve probably heard this one before, but you really have to log your food. Use a food logging app, such as MyFitnessPal, to track your calorie intake EVERY SINGLE DAY. Weight loss is all about eating less calories than you are burning. The only way to know if you are actually doing this is to log your food. Between the parties, cookies, and gingerbread houses, there’s a very good chance that you will be consuming way too many calories over the holidays. A food logging app is your way to manage this.

You have to be honest with yourself and honest with your log. Remember, if you intentionally forget to log something, it doesn’t mean that it doesn’t count. It will absolutely show up on you, probably in the place you want it least. Staying on top of a food log is the number one best way to lose weight instead of gain weight over the holidays.
