When life gives you lemons, you make lemonade. But what about when life seems to be taking all of your lemons away? Life is a crazy, beautiful, mess and it can sometimes feel like you just can’t keep up. You’re doing so well with your fitness and nutrition goals until the holidays sneak up on you, or that vacation comes around. Life is never going to be consistent all the time, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t be. Here are my 3 tips for staying consistent with your fitness and nutrition goals even when life isn’t.
1. Set SMART Goals
SMART Goals are goals that are Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Timely. Setting a goal that is specific and measureable will not only give you an end destination to keep in mind, but it allow you to crunch the numbers for success. If your goal is to just “lose weight”, will you be satisfied with 1 pound? Maybe. You’ve technically achieved your goal, right? Be as specific as you can so you can set yourself up for success.
You also want to make sure that your goal is realistic and can be attained in a timely manner. If you set a specific goal of losing 100 lbs in 2 weeks, you may be disappointed when that doesn’t happen. I know this is an exaggeration, but you get the picture. So when you’re setting goals, make sure they are specific and measurable, while being attainable and realistic for your time frame.
2. Keep a Journal of Your Goals
We all have those days when life throws you a curve ball and your motivation goes out the window with it. By keeping a photo journal of your goals and everything that you’ve accomplished so far, you can take a minute to stop and reflect when you feel your motivation slipping away. All of these photos should be positive and encouraging. They can be anything from inspiration photos of what you want to achieve, or photos to show off how far you’ve come. This can go a long way in bringing you back when you feel yourself slipping away.
3. Enlist The Help of a Loved One
The buddy system is an awesome way to stay motivated. If you have someone else waiting to meet you, then you are more likely to go workout. This can be a friend or family member that you go with every time, or better yet, a personal trainer that will take you through specific workouts based on what you need. By enlisting the help of those that care about you, they can help you stay on track.
There you have it! By setting SMART goals, keeping a journal of your goals, and enlisting the help of a friend or loved one, you can stay on top of your goals no matter what life brings to the table.
